THE SIMPLE SCIENCE OF WHY I HAVE OPTED TO SHOP SUSTAINABLY

BEING A FASHION AND DECOR ENTHUSIAST, I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE LATEST TRENDS AND ITEMS THAT CAME WITH IT. AFTER YEARS OF BUYING ‘TO HAVE’, I HAVE REALISED THAT THE LESS YOU NEED THE MORE YOU HAVE

Naturally the need to shop sustainable products has taken over and I have found that investing more of your money, time and effort into finding those unique and sustainable pieces that add value to your life end up bringing you much more joy.

Sustainable brands focus on delivering products of exceptional quality, the materials used are made to last and are kind to the environment. When we shop sustainably we recognise that there is more to the item you’re paying for. You acknowledge that it has a health, social and environmental impact on the planet we live on. When that penny drops, shopping sustainably is very simple. You choose to house things in your life that align with your beliefs and outlook.

I’m not perfect, and I still buy plastic toys for my kids and their friends’ birthdays. I don’t always buy the biodegradable kitchen cleaner and washing liquid, however I do try my best. I shop locally, I try hard to reduce plastic where I can and I shop only when I need something and not necessarily when I want it. I fix-up or buy second hand rather than brand new items as much as possible which has also, thank goodness, become a trend.

I believe in looking for natural materials used in products and also align my purchasing power with my beliefs ensuring that my home and what I keep in it is the best I can afford at this stage in my life.

It’s a work in progress and something I am still working towards, however more importantly I believe that understanding the why, it gets a little easier every time you choose to ‘add to cart’.

You can check out lifestyle.lmda.world for sustainable, often local, products that ticks most of these boxes.
