When it comes to fat, a lot of people spend most of their lives trying to shed it or keep it at bay. But there is one area of the body where the loss of fat can have undesired consequences. And, what’s more, it’s unavoidable. 

As we get older, our faces tend to lose the plumpness they once had. This isn’t just thanks to gravity, either: as we age, fat is lost and also redistributed, which can lead to sagging, wrinkling, and irregularities. 

One popular way to treat this is with dermal fillers but they are only a temporary solution, lasting for around six to 18 months. Another option that is becoming increasingly popular and has longer-lasting results is fat grafting, which uses your own excess flab to rejuvenate your skin. Yes, you read that right!

Fat in your face

Fat grafting, which is also known as lipofilling, is when fat is taken from a donor area on the body and injected into another one. This technique can be used to fill in areas of the face that are gaunt or sunken-in for a plump, youthful look. 

This procedure is generally done under general anesthetic and takes around 45 minutes for the fat to be removed from the donor site and injected into the face. Common areas for the fat transfer include the cheekbones, under the eyes, and even the lips. 

Other than bruising and swelling that may last for a couple of weeks, fat grafting has minimal side effects as it is your own tissue so there is no chance of rejection. The result? A face with restored evenness and volume but with zero signs of cosmetic surgery. And, if you told people your looks were totally natural and 100% you, you wouldn’t be lying, either!
